The Crystalens

This is the first and only implant that focuses like the eye’s natural lens, focusing at all lengths – near, far, and in-between. The eyes muscles move the lens closer and farther in the brain’s response to see at different distances. The eye will focus continuously and seamlessly through all ranges of distance.

It is important to note that not everyone will see 20/20 at all distances. Even after having this procedure, you may have difficulty reading close in low light conditions. As you age, seeing under those conditions becomes more difficult.

The Crystalens Procedure

It is a safe and proven refractive surgery performed in an outpatient facility. The procedure takes 20 minutes and is relatively painless. The eyes original clouded lens is replaced by the Crystalens. The dominant eye is treated first and the second eye is treated in a few weeks.

The ReSTOR IOL

Today, the Acrysof® ReSTOR IOL is one of the most frequently used intraocular lenses, because it has a proven reputation of results and long-term stability. This revolutionary lens is designed to help patients see clearly at all distances, without reading glasses or bifocals. The ReSTOR IOL provides a full range of vision, decreasing patient dependency on glasses. By allowing for glasses-free vision, the ReSTOR IOL has improved both the vision and lifestyle of millions of patients.

In a clinical study, 80% of patients who received the ReSTOR never wore glasses for any activity. With this lens, patients can read the newspaper, work on the computer, drive, play their favorite sport-- all with increased freedom from glasses. In addition, 94% of patients said they would have the procedure done again if given the opportunity.

With the ReSTOR IOL, the objective of cataract surgery is no longer to simply restore distance vision. Instead, the goal is provide a full range of vision- minimizing your dependence on any glasses.

Although some patients are apprehensive about intraocular lenses, understanding what a cataract is and how it will be removed can help turn patient concern into excitement about treatment options.

How Cataracts Develop

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. This lens, located behind the pupil works in similar fashion to the lens of a camera – it focuses light rays onto the retina.

When the human lens becomes clouded, it blocks and distorts light rays going to the retina. In most patients, this clouding is related to the aging process. Cataracts are treated by removing the lens and replacing it with a special implant.

What is Presbyopia?

When you reach your forties, you may notice that you have to hold a book or newspaper farther away to read it. Most people use reading glasses or bifocals to compensate for this aging of the eyes. This condition affects everyone including those that have had perfect vision all of their lives.

The introduction of the ReSTOR Implant marks a significant advance in cataract surgery since the days of your parents. No longer is the objective to simply restore your vision. Today, the goal is to enhance your vision with an IOL that will not only improve distance, but also reduce your dependence on any glasses for the computer or reading. This will reduce your dependence on reading glasses or bifocals.

The Safest and Most Successful Procedure

Cataract surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Your eyes will be treated with an anesthetic prior to the procedure so you will feel little discomfort. The cataract is removed with a small instrument and the lens implant inserted. This implant remains in position and will restore distance and near vision if a PCIOL is inserted.
